The Best Pizza in Austin, TX
After moving from Brooklyn, NY to Austin, TX during COVID, I struggled to find a good NYC pizza place. It may seem crazy to some who have not experienced it, but NYC pizza is simply better…If you feel the same, or are curious what all the hype has been about for generations, check out my guide to the best pizza in Austin, Texas!
Palm Pizza: This brand new spot from the Bufalina team is quickly becoming a favorite for its New York-style pies. Think thin, chewy crust, large slices, and classic toppings like pepperoni and sausage. (They also have great speciality pies.) We got the Chef’s Salad with chickpeas, hearts of palm, cucumber, roasted peppers, provolone, soppressata, quinoa, romaine, radicchio, parsley, olives, choice of Serrano ranch or zesty Italian (Zesty Italian is the way!) and their signature Palm Pizza. This was heaven! Topped with stracciatella, tomato sauce, and mozzarella finished with Parmesan, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and Sicilian oregano - you can’t beat it! Prices are higher, but it is worth it for anyone who loves pizza, but has some dietary sensitivity to low-quality cheese and flour (me!) If you're looking for a casual spot with delicious pizza, Palm Pizza is a great choice.
Bufalina: A longtime Austin favorite, Bufalina is known for its Neapolitan pizzas made with artisanal ingredients. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven, giving them a smoky flavor that is simply irresistible. They also have a great selection of wines and beers to pair with your pizza. If you're looking for a classic Neapolitan pizza experience, Bufalina is the place to go.
Tony C's: This local chain has several locations around Austin, and they're all known for their coal-fired pizzas. The pizzas are cooked at high temperatures in a coal oven, which gives them a crispy crust and a slightly charred flavor. They also have a large menu of other Italian dishes, like pasta, salads, and entrees. If you're looking for a hearty pizza with a unique flavor, Tony C's is a good option.
Here are some additional things to consider when choosing a pizza place in Austin:
Price: Pizzas in Austin can range in price from $10 to $25 or more. Palm Pizza and Bufalina are on the higher end of the price spectrum, while Tony C's is more affordable.
Location: There are great pizza places all over Austin, so you're sure to find one that's convenient for you. Palm Pizza is located in East Austin, Bufalina has two locations (one in East Austin and one in South Austin), and Tony C's has several locations around the city.
Atmosphere: Some pizza places are casual and family-friendly, while others are more upscale and date-night worthy. Palm Pizza is a casual spot, Bufalina has a cool and trendy vibe, and Tony C's is more of a neighborhood restaurant, with more seating space and a family appeal.
No matter what your taste or budget, you're sure to find the perfect pizza place in Austin. So grab your friends and family and head out for a slice (or two) of the best pizza in town!
