Firenze: My Journey Through Florence, Italy
Florence, the heart of Tuscany, has long been a dream destination for travelers, artists, and fashion lovers alike. As someone deeply immersed in the world of luxury fashion and craftsmanship, I knew that Florence would offer an unparalleled blend of history, artistry, and inspiration. What I didn’t anticipate was just how much this enchanting city would capture my heart.
A Walk Through History
From the moment I arrived, Florence felt like an open-air museum. The grandeur of the Duomo, with its iconic red dome designed by Brunelleschi, left me in awe. I wandered through the winding streets, where every turn revealed another breathtaking landmark—from the stately Palazzo Vecchio to the picturesque Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno River.
The Uffizi Gallery was an undeniable highlight. Standing before Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus and Caravaggio’s dramatic masterpieces was a surreal experience. Art is woven into the very fabric of Florence, and it was impossible not to feel inspired at every step.
Indulging in Craftsmanship & Fashion
As someone who has spent years in the luxury fashion industry, I couldn’t visit Florence without diving into its rich artisanal heritage. The city is home to some of the world’s most revered leather artisans. A visit to the Scuola del Cuoio, where skilled craftsmen create exquisite leather goods by hand, was a reminder of the timeless beauty of true craftsmanship.
Of course, a fashion pilgrimage wouldn’t be complete without splurging on a luxury handbag at a more affordable cost than buying in the US. I decided on a limited edition Loewe puzzle bag (while not Italian, it’s a personal favorite) to add to my collection.
Savoring the Flavors of Tuscany
No trip to Florence would be complete without indulging in its world-famous cuisine.
For a quick and delicious lunch, I loved grabbing a panini from Pinos or a ham and cheese sandwich from Wild Bun Scandinavian Cafe. They get busy, so get there early or be prepared to stand in line When it came to aperitivo, the Babae Wine Window was a charming spot to enjoy an Aperol Spritz, while Caffe Notte Bistrot offered a fantastic 5-euro Aperol Spritz. They got very busy in the evenings, so plan ahead or go in the off-hours.
Florence is also a haven for dessert lovers. I had the best affogato at instgram-famous Vivoli and the most incredibly creamy and delicious gelato at Gelateria Artigianale. For an unbeatable 8-euro pizza, Gustapizza was a must-visit. One of my favorite evening spots was Langolino, where I enjoyed cocktails alongside bites like olives with prosciutto on delicious sourdough bread. The owner was so kind and welcomed my niece and I multiple times during my trip.
For music lovers, Contempo Records was an absolute gem. They had an impressive collection, and I was thrilled to find a CW Stoneking record for my husband—one he had been searching for forever!
A City That Stays With You
If your budget allows, staying at the St. Regis Florence is an unforgettable experience. The attentive team, delightful happy hour (included in my stay), and a welcome Aperol Spritz aperitif made my visit even more special—especially as I celebrated my trip with my niece, who is studying abroad.
As my trip came to an end, I realized that Florence isn’t just a place you visit—it’s a place that lingers in your soul. Its rich history, dedication to craftsmanship, and undeniable beauty make it a city unlike any other. The culture is relaxed, welcoming, and has an appreciation for celebrating life daily - be that with a quick cocktail in the afternoon, spending time with friends strolling around town, or by simply relaxing outside with your pup. Whether you’re an art lover, a fashion enthusiast, or a traveler in search of something magical, Florence will welcome you with open arms.
