My fiance and I recently decided we wanted to welcome a new puppy into our lives. I have wanted to add a puppy to our family for a number of years now, but the time has never been just right (is it ever!?) Finally we decided the week after we are married we will get a little long-hired Chihuahua from a wonderful breeder in Virginia where my mom is living.

side note, I fully appreciate adopt don’t shop. This did not fit what I was looking for in my first puppy, however, I fully understand the need to not support puppy mills. I am getting my puppy from Elspeth Chihuahuas in Virginia and she has only the healthiest, most loved puppies available

We will be buying a number of new puppy things over the next few weeks in preparation. Here is a list of what we are getting for little Elvis:

1/ Fable Crate and Bed

We wanted a crate that we could keep forever and that Elvis Bean will grow into. We went with the black cushion as they were sold out in many other options, but also because our home decor has dark accents. I love the clear door so I can still see in at night. He loves it! the door scared him at first, coming from the top vs. left, but now it is no problem.

2/ Lambwolf Collective Farmers Market Toy Set & Ou No Dog Toy
My fiance is a private chef so we started our relationship in 2016 going to the farmers market at 14 Union Sq in NYC. This is only fitting for little pups first toy set! We shall see if they are all too big for him - he’s only 5lbs!

3/Max Bone Eco Packable Side Sling

This side sling is great because it can be packed, comes in multiple colors, and is just the right size for a toy dog. I will be bringing Elvis everywhere I can - Austin, TX is very dog friendly - so I wanted to make sure I had the perfect carrier for him.

4/ Nooee Pet Car Seat Lola

I have heard many people talk about how they use car seats for their dogs. Since Elvis is going to be so small, and I want him to be OK riding in cars, I want to start this process when he’s still young. This little car set from Nooee pets is the perfect hybrid carrier/car seat.

5/ Kong Puppy Toy

I have read about the importance of having many chewable options for puppies - the Kong products have been well-regarded in many reviews and friends homes. I am pairing this with many puppy teething toys from Amazon and Chewy, but this is apparently a must! Turns out, puppies need a lot of mental stimulation when they are young and this is a great toy to keep them quick.

6/ Ouai Pet Shampoo

Bathing your puppy is a must - depending on your breed, it’s every couple weeks to once per month. I have seen rave reviews on Ouai Fur Bebe shampoo and had to bite. I have used Ouai products myself and they have been great. Apparently you cannot beat the long-lasting scent an it leaves the fur super soft.
